Humpback Whale and Jpod, July 15th 2007.

Lighthouse at Turn Point.

New Calf J42 & Mother J16 "Slick"

J8 "Spieden" born 1932
J11 "Blossom" born 1971
J26 "Mike" born 1991

The above 5 pictures show members of Jpod in what looked like resting mode near Moresby Island.
Today was another great day to be on the water with calm seas and cloudy but warm weather. In the morning our passengers enjoyed watching a Humpback Whale South East of Race Rocks.
In the afternoon we managed to catch up with Jpod who had moved south from the mouth of the Frazer River during the morning. We caught up with Jpod during our 12.30pm tour just as they arrived at Turn Point and expected them to turn South and head down the West shore of the San Juan Islands. However, due to a strong current caused by the tide the pod slowly moved back North towards Moresby Island. We observed several members including the new Calf (now 2 months old) J42, her mother J16 "Slick", J8 "Spieden" J11 "Blossom" and J26 "Mike". All Jpod was there but they were spread out across the channel.
Our 2.00pm tour had a little farther to travel but managed to catch up to Jpod near Otter Point just before they headed through Active Pass.
