T40 & Friends near Waldron Island! May 30th, 2010.

Here are a few images from our encounter with T40, T86A & T86A2 near Waldron Island!

Ron Bates, MMRG, had received a report earlier in the day of three Transient Orcas in Rosario Strait. Our earlier boat had encountered T40 "Captain Hook" along with T86A & T86A2 near Friday Harbour but they had continued to move north and by the time we got on scene they were near Waldron Island heading North East.

We watched as the Orcas made at least one kill, probably a Harbor Seal but we kept a respectful distance. Under the Be Whale Wise guidelines boat are to maintain a distance of 200 m/yds when Transient Orcas are making a kill. All the boats on scene maintained at least that distance.

We also saw an amazing spyhop by T40 during our encounter, it was the highlight of a wonderful trip!
