Aug 6th, 2010. New L-pod Calf spotted during our morning tour!

Here are a few images from our incredible encounter with a New L-pod Calf spotted during our morning tour! This is an excellent development and brings the total number of Southern Resident Orcas to 88 members:)

It has been confirmed by the Center for Whale Research that the new Calf's (L115) mother is in fact L47 "Marina", a female born in 1974. L47 has had 6 other calf's but only two have survived, L83 (who is now a mother to L110) and L91. The other 4 calf's all died within their first year but it is hoped that L115 can have a better fate!
