Resident Orcas and Gray Whale in the afternoon! Aug 1st, 2010.
Here are a few amazing images from this afternoon's encounters with members of J, K & L-pod plus the Gray Whale!
We headed towards False Bay this afternoon and came upon our first Orcas a few miles offshore foraging for Salmon. In particular we observed a young Orca hunting and catching a Salmon just a few hundred yards from our boat!
We also saw a nice group of L-pod moving offshore as well as a large male that we believe was L87 "Oynx".
On our way home we encountered the Gray Whale in Oak Bay, which was a bonus treat for our passengers:)
I hope the sightings in August continues to be as good as they were today!
