Humpback Whales, Feisty Sea Lion & Nuclear Submarine! Oct 21, 2012
During today’s tour we had everything! Multiple Humpback Whales (at least 6), a feisty California Sea Lion, fresh snow on the mountains and an encounter with a US Nuclear Submarine, & even close encounter with one of its escort gun boats:)
The Humpback Whales included the Mother & Calf again plus one large Humpback Whale that I did not recognize as its dorsal fin was one I had never seen before. This year we have spotted a number of Humpback Whales that are new to the area and it seems we are getting more and more Humpback Whales visiting the Salish Sea every year.
We also had a close encounter with a US Nuclear Submarine and one of the Coast Guard gun boats that was escorting the sub through the Strait of Juan De Fuca.
I doubt there are many places in the world where you get to watch Humpback Whales and a Nuclear Submarine:)
