Transient Orcas & Multiple Humpback Whales encountered! Oct 13th, 2012
Today we encountered Transient Orcas and Humpback Whales west of Race Rocks during our afternoon tour:)
We had received reports earlier that both the Transient Orcas and Humpback Whales had been spotted near Sooke, heading towards Race Rocks. However, the boats that had headed out before us had been unable o pick up the Transient Orcas. So we headed out west to encounter the Humpback Whales & also keep an eye out for the Orcas. Our first encounter was with the Mother & Calf Humpback Whale, that have been in the Salish Sea for several months now.
As we were watching the two Humpback Whales play around, we suddenly heard from another boat that the Transient Orcas had been located so off we went. We encountered the Transient Orcas south west of Race Rocks and we had two separate groups. Both groups were heading west back out to the pacific ocean but we had a wonderful encounter with them.
Before heading home we stopped off at Race Rocks to show our guests some of the potential prey animals for Transient Orcas!
