Multiple Humpback Whales! Oct 12th, 2012
Our incredible encounters with Humpback Whales in October continued today when we had a total of 5 west of Race Rocks during our afternoon tour! This October has been one of the best months to see Humpback Whales and we’ve had more Humpback Whales encountered this year than ever before:)
We had our first encounter with 3 Humpback Whales, including the Mother & Calf, just east of Sooke Bluffs. We witnessed several tail flukes as the Humpback Whales made their deep dives. The youngster also turned on its side and showed one of its tail flukes out of the water at one stage.
The other two Humpback Whales, including one we saw for only the second time in the area, were a little closer to Race Rocks and we watched them doing some feeding and then tail fluke as they dived.
We also stopped off at Race Rocks to show our guests the countless Pinnipeds that hang out at this Ecological Reserve including, Steller & California Sea Lions, Harbor Seals and Northern Elephant Seals. Whilst at race Rocks we also saw a Bald Eagle, the second one we had seen that day!
