Lpod off Victoria water front, June 25th 2007!!

These two pictures are of L72 "Racer" born in 1985

The picture above and below is of L57 "Faith" who was born in 1976.

The three pictures above are of L41 "Mega", he and Faith are two of the large Lpod males. Male Orcas can reach up to 30 feet long, weigh approx 9 tons and have a dorsal fin up to 6' tall!!
This afternoon we set out from Victoria harbour in search of Lpod who had not been sighted all day long. We believed that Lpod must be somewhere in the vicinity as they had not followed Jpod into Active Pass and so along with a couple of other boats the search began. Eagle eyed Skipper Trev thought he saw a blow just south of Trial Island and directed a boat that was closer to investigate. Sure enough the boat soon reported seeing members of Jpod near Trial Island heading towards Victoria. It is a little surprising that no other boats or anyone else had noticed Lpod before, but we enjoyed an excellent trip with the largest of the 3 Southern Resident Pods.
The sun was out and the seas were very calm, perfect conditions for watching Whales and Lpod did not disappoint. We saw a lot of foraging and hunting salmon by various members of Lpod. Our passengers were thrilled when we got some close passes by L57 "Faith", L72 "Racer" and L41 "Mega".

N.B. Please note all pictures are zoomed in and appear closer than they are.
