Transient Orcas in Juan De Fuca Strait, June 9th 2007

T68A

This afternoon we set out on Fastcat towards Race Rocks as Transients had been sighted just South East of there. We arrived to find around 12 Transients who were moving quite slowly and milling around.

Transient Orcas are Marine Mammal eating Orcas and their prey includes Seals, Porpoises, Sea Lions and even other Whales. They can be distinguished from Resident Orcas as they tend to travel in smaller groups and have a more pointed tip to their dorsal fin, with a more uniform gray saddle patch.

I did manage to identify two individuals, T68 and T68A and this was confirmed by photos sent to Graeme Ellis and John Ford.
