Humpback Whale, Brown Pelican and Transient Orcas!! Aug 21st 2007.

What an amazing day on the water with all three of our tours today seeing whales, in fact our 10.00am boat found the Humpback Whale today and was on scene at 2.00pm when Transients popped up through the layer of fog close by to the Humpback we had been watching. Our Captain, Scotty, was the hero of the hour!

The adventure for our 12.30 tour began as soon as we left the harbor as we spotted a rare Brown Pelican. There was actually two Pelicans near a baitball, but one of them was spooked by a private vessel that headed right to the baitball... probably thinking a whale had been sighted. We sat very quietly near the remaining Pelican for about 10 minutes before slipping away to leave the bird in peace.

Next we headed to the Humpback that our sister vessel Fastcat had found in the morning and had a great time watching this animal. We had to keep a close eye on the Whale as visibility was less than 300 yards in the fog. Once a couple more vessels arrived on scene we slipped away and headed to Race Rocks where we saw a large amount of Sealions, Seals and Elephant Seals.

We then heard that Fastcat had just sighted a group of Transient Orcas near the Humpback Whale so off we went and had a great time with these ultimate predators.
