What a day in the Juan De Fuca Strait today! We had at least 3 Humpback Whales, a Minke Whale and 6 Transient Orcas (Marine Mammal Eating Orcas) plus at least one possible sighting of a Fin Whale. Our day started with an early 8.00am trip in dense fog over much of the Juan De Fuca Strait, which made for a quiet and Erie journey but one full of excitement for our passengers as various Marine Mammals appeared through the mist.
In the afternoon the Mist had cleared up and we set out to see the Humpbacks that had once again been sighted in the Juan De Fuca Strait. We got to see great Tail Flukes as the Humpback went on a deep dive and also had a number of close passes (just over 100m's) by the Whale. Apart from the Humpback we also saw Elephant Seals and Sealions at Race Rocks.
Just as our boats were heading out for their evening tours, word came in that a number of Transient Orcas had been sighted nearby so off our boats went in search of them. They found them not far from Trial Island and so our evening passengers got the joy of watching both the Transient Orcas and a Humpback Whale.
