The 5 pictures above show just a small fraction of the amazing number of Breaches we saw during our evening tour!!

The 2 pictures above show Orcas in the beautiful glow of the almost setting sun.

This Orca is "Kelping", playing with a piece of Kelp in its Tail Flukes. Orcas will often display such playful behaviour.

The pictures above are of Lpod near the San Juan Islands.

This evening we set out towards Eagle Point on San Juan Island and found that we had another Superpod! Earlier in the day a number Orcas from Lpod that had been out West had been found near Secretary by our 8.00am boat and observed to be travelling East throughout the day. The passengers aboard our evening cruise had no idea they were in for one of the best trips of the season so far, but it soon became clear this was going to be a special evening as we saw several breaches as soon as we arrived on scene.
All three pods were present but spread out over a wide area but were in a very social mood. We saw several tail slaps, spyhops and more breaches than I have ever seen on a single trip. One Orca breached three times in a row about 120 metres from our boat, much to the delight of all aboard, it was breathtaking!
We also saw some "Kelping", this is where an Orca plays with a piece of kelp. The Orcas were also being very vocal and we listened to them communicate with each other for several minutes using our on board hydrophone.
As if all the action we were so fortunate to witness was not enough, on the way home we were treated to another spectacular evening sky and sunset. What a day!
N.B. Please enjoy these pictures but remember they are taken with a zoom lens.
