Amazing T30's Transient Orca encounter! Aug 19th, 2008.

We encountered the T30 pod of Transient Orcas this morning near Point no Point and did not realize as we arrived on scene what a wonderful experience we were about to witness.

T30, T30A, T30B and T30C were in the area for the third straight day, a rare occurrence for Transients. We first caught up with T30A, the large male, who was swimming closer to shore alone. Then we heard from our other vessel, Supercat, that the two females (T30 & T30B) with the calf T30C, were a little further south and looked like they were making a kill. Sure enough as we arrived on scene we could see several leaps, porpoising and lunges as the Orcas killed a California Sealion! What an incredible sight to see these ultimate predators at work.

On our way home we stopped at race Rocks and saw a large number of Harbor Seals, two Northern Elephant Seals, several Stellar Sealions and many California Sealions on the main rock. Yet another amazing trip with Five Star Whale Watching:)
