L67 "Splash"

L41 "Mega"

An Orca (L25 "Ocean Sun") playing with a Porpoise at the surface!

We spent today with the L12 sub pod (a sub pod is a family group) of Lpod today off the west coast of San Juan Island. The beautiful sunny weather and calm conditions made for the perfect environment to watch these amazing marine mammals as they foraged up and down the coast.

It was great to see the L12's again, especially L41 "Mega" one of my favorite Orcas. We also saw L25 "Ocean Sun", L12 "Alexis", L77 "Matia & L94 "Calypso" (Mega's 2 sisters) and L67 "Splash". L85 "Mystery" was also seen hanging out with the L12's throughout the day.

Whilst we were watching the Orcas we suddenly saw L25 "Ocean Sun" bring what we firs thought was a Salmon to the surface but was actually a Porpoise! L25 did not seem to want to kill the Porpoise but played with it for a while before swimming away.

Lots of Orcas and sunshine, what more could you ask for:)
