Breathtaking evening orca encounter!! Aug 14th, 2008.

We headed out this evening on our final trip of the day and what an unforgettable evening it turned out to be! As we left the harbor we heard that most of the Southern Resident Orcas had headed North towards Vancouver but that one group was last sighted near False Bay.

As no one had been with these Orcas for over 30 minutes, it took a while to find them but Five Star Whale Watching has an experienced crew and Cpt. Trev managed to sight the Orcas north of Lime Kiln Whale Park, great job Trev:) As we sat with engines off and our hydrophone in the water we heard some breathtaking vocalizations from the various Orcas, mostly members of Lpod including L73 "Flash", L5 "Tanya" and L74 "Saanich". The highlight of the trip was when L73 rolled on his back several times and brought his tail and pectoral fins in the air, what a magical moment!

We were also fortunate enough to witness the most fantastic sunset and evening sky of the year, WOW is the only word to describe the colours!
