Members of Lpod! Sept 13th, 2008.

We headed out this morning and caught up with members of Lpod near Eagle Point. As we observed the Orcas on this beautiful morning we observed several Breaches, Tail Slaps, Spyhops and cart wheels by a group of young Orcas.

In the afternoon our vessel also encountered 2 and possibly 3 Minke Whales near Hein Bank. Minke Whales are the second smallest of the Baleen Whale species but are still over 30' long and weigh well over 10 tons. They are attracted to Hein Bank due to the abundance of small fish, such as Sand Lance, that the Minke's feed on.

During our evening trip we again encountered members of Lpod including Gaia and his brother Wave Walker. As we observed the Orcas we saw Gaia Breach, an impressive sight indeed! The Orcas had earlier been heading up Rosario Strait but thankfully turned around and came back towards Rosario Strait. It was a beautiful evening on the water and perfect conditions to watch these Apex Pr editors!
