Here are just a few examples of the pictures I captured during this evenings spectacular encounter with the T30's and T18/19's south of Constance Bank. We first came across the T18/19's south west of Constance but could see they were making their way towards the T30's. As we watched in anticipation we could see the 2 separate groups form into a line as they came closer and closer. What followed when they met up is beyond words as we witnessed what few people in the world will ever see in the wild, the breath taking meeting ritual of Transient Orcas! We witnessed several breaches, tail slaps, pectoral slaps porpoising, and cartwheels all in calm seas and magnificent lighting. At one point we even witnessed the Orcas batting a bird between then with their tail flukes, unbelievable!!!! Whilst all this action was going on we also heard an incredible amount of vocalization, a real rarity with Transient Orcas.
This trip will remain in my memory for a long time and is probably the most spectacular Transient Orca encounter I and Captain Trev (who has been doing this for over 13 years) has ever witnessed....... we even saw a Humpback Whale during the trip as well:)
