Humpback Whales in the morning and K & L-pod in the afternoon! Sept 23rd, 2010

Here are a few images by Ron Bates of Marine Mammal Research Group (MMRG), from our encounters with Humpback Whales in the morning and K & L-pod in the afternoon. We could not head East in the morning due to big seas so we headed out west and managed to find 3-4 Humpback Whales just East of Race Rocks.

In the afternoon we decided to try to push out East after receiving reports that the Resident Orcas had been sighted off San Juan Island. We managed to make it over to Lime Kiln and found K & L-pod just to the south of us. We had an amazing trip with incredible echolocation a vocalizations as we watched a mother teaching her calf to fish!
