Transient Orcas and 4 Humpback Whales in the afternoon & Humpback Whales during our final evening trip of the season! Sept 11th, 2010

Here are just a few images from this afternoon's encounter with 4 Transient Orcas and 4 Humpback Whales and Humpback Whales during our final evening trip of the season!

We headed out this afternoon and encountered a group of Transient (Marine Mammal Eaters) Orcas a few miles south east of Race Rocks. The Orcas seemed to be mostly in travel mode although we did see some foraging at times.

Next we encountered 4 different Humpback Whales between Race Rocks and Constance Bank, including a Mother & Calf pairing. Our final stop during the afternoon was Race Rocks where we saw Stellar & California Sealions plus Harbor Seals.

During our final evening tour of the season we once again came across the Humpback Whales we had sighted earlier in the day including "Split Fin". We did see some wonderful tail fluking as we sat watching these large Baleen Whales. At Race Rocks we also saw a Sealion catch and swallow whole a very largw Salmon!
