Humpback Whale on a beautiful sunny day! Oct 23rd, 2007.

The man, the myth, the legend, in his own mind:) Actually this picture is of the Crazy Brit, 5* unofficial photographer, Naturalist, Asst. Manager and Blog editor!!

What a truly spectacular day on the water we had this afternoon. The weather was like a summers day with a record breaking temperature for October of 20 degrees!!! As if the weather was not reason enough to be on the water, we had at least 4 Humpback Whales near Constance Bank and it could possibly be 5.

We could see two distinct Humpback pairings when we first arrived on scene and first went to see the closest pair. The Humpbacks were being very active with a lot of splashing, Trumpeting and several impressive Tail Flukes as they went on deep dives. It was incredible to be on the water today with wildlife all around our boat and something to see in every direction, including bait balls, Sealions, Porpoise and of course the Humpback Whales.

After spending time with this first pair of Humpback Whales and watching the second pair in the distance we headed to Race Rocks to look at what this pristine marine environment has to offer. We saw Stellar and California Sealions in their Hundreds lying on the rocks all around the Lighthouse. On one of the rocks, mixed in with the countless Stellar Sealions, we saw four Harbor Seals. Several Stellar Sealions were seen swimming in the water and a few of the braver ones came for a closer look as we drifted through Race Passage with our engines off.

We then headed back to the Humpback Whales to get another look at these impressive Baleen Whales. As we got back on scene we could see that three animals had joined together and one was thrashing its tail at the surface, amazing!!!

It was such a special and memorable day to be on the water and I for one feel so fortunate to be paid to enjoy the wonders offered today.
