After receiving reports that Transient Orcas had been sighted in Haro Strait, we set out this afternoon and headed East towards Turn Point. After a short drive through Haro Strait we caught up with the Orcas a little North of Darcy Island and could see the Transients were zig zagging across the strait.
Not long after we arrived Marine Mammal Researcher, Ron Bates, identified the Transients as being the T2 group, a group of 5 Transient Orcas led by a female T2. We had a group of four animals together with T2 herself travelling alone slightly ahead. The T2's continued to zig zag back and forth across the strait as we followed them wondering if we would witness a kill as we could clearly see several Harbor Seals in the water as well as Dalls Porpoise.
On our way home we saw the Dalls Porpoise again briefly near our boat before they went on a deep dive, possibly trying to avoid the transient Orcas. We also spotted several harbor Seals hauled out near Trial Island.
Once again October delivered another wonderful adventure in the Salish Sea!
