Humpback Whales and Jpod with part of Lpod! Oct 12th 2007.

A group of Stellar Sealions were seen playing by our boat today.

We had up to 8 Humpback Whales in the area and it is so pleasing to see these large Whales return in such strong numbers!

On our 2pm tour today both of our boats set out in search of multiple Humpback Whales that had been reported a few miles south of the Harbor. We were not disappointed as shortly into our journey we came across not one but three Humpbacks swimming closely together and loudly trumpeting as they came to the surface. As we were watching these three Humpback Whales we could also see other Humpbacks in the distance and it is believed there could have been as many as 8 of them.

Our skipper Trev, then noticed a very playful group of Stellar Sealions so he switched off the engines and slowly this group of young Stellars made their way towards our boat. The Stellars were being very inquisitive and playful and came right up to the boat and even swam under the boat.

Then we heard a report of Orcas being sighted to the West of Race Rocks heading East towards our location. We headed West to see if it was Residents or Transient Orcas and not long after arriving on scene we realized we had Jpod and some members of Lpod. What a bonus for our passengers and provided another memorable trip in October.
This was also the last trip for two of our Naturalists, Jac and Merina, before they head to do research in the Gulf of Mexico. Good luck to you both and I want you to know it has been a pleasure working with the two of you over the last couple of seasons.
