Minke Whale, Jpod and part of Lpod. October 13th 2007.

During our 2.00pm tour today we ventured East towards the San Juans after receiving reports that Jpod and members of Lpod had been sighted near Heine Bank. On the way over to Heine Bank we also saw a Minke Whale.
Then a group of Dalls Porpoise popped up and after a while briefly played in our bow wave. As quickly as the Dalls appeared they suddenly stopped playing and took off. However, the short display had left everyone on board thrilled.
When we arrived on scene we could see that Jpod and the L's were spread out over a very large area. However, we soon spotted a group of juveniles with a couple of Females that were being very active, so we decided to stick with this group for a while and it paid off. Whilst watching this particular group we got to see a lot of interaction and touch feely behaviour. Several tailslaps, spyhops, cartwheels, pec waves and tail fluking could be seen. It was a beautiful sight watching this intimate interaction on such a beautiful day.

This afternoons trip was a special private charter for a guy called Chris who was leaving for 12 months in Australia and wanted to take his friends Whale Watching as a farewell gift. We had a great group of people on board and everyone had fun watching Jpod and some members of Lpod near Heine Bank. Good Luck in Australia Chris.
