We set out this afternoon on another breathtaking day on the water and headed to Kelp Reef, where it was reported that all three pod J, K & L pod were located and forming a Superpod! When we arrived on scene we could see that the Orcas were spread right across Haro Strait.

Whilst on scene we saw a number of Breaches, tailslaps, spyhops, pectoral slaps and several Orcas interacting with each other. We could also see a lot of foraging for Slamon was being conducted by several Orcas and witnessed some high speed porpoising as the Orcas chased the salmon.

The water is very clear at this time of the year and it makes it easy to see the Orcas under the water as they swim by the boat, even from a distance. As we were watching one particular group we could clearly see two animals rolling around each others bodies under the water. Orcas have very sensitive skin and are very touchy feely animals. We also saw one Orca trailing kelp behind and wrapped around the dorsal fin. This is an action we often see by Orcas and it is their way of playing with a toy.

This October is turning out to be one of the best months for seeing Wildlife!
