J-28 "Polaris", a 16-yr old female member of the Southern Resident Killer Whale population...Note the distinctive notch half-way down the trailing edge of her dorsal fin.WOW! I feel old because it seems like just yesterday that she was born and we were staying far away out on the water to give her plenty of extra room during the first six months of her life. She was part of the first wave of births that happenned in the early 1990's as J-pod began to recover from loss of animals to the live-captures by aquaria and marine parks in the 1960's and 1970's.
You will not see a better example of a Brown Pelican in the wild.
THURSDAY, MAY 14, 2009 J-Pod Resident Killer Whales & Brown Pelican!
