WEDNESDAY, MAY 6, 2009 GRAY WHALE, ELEPHANT SEAL & "BARBERSHOP QUARTET"(?)

Sea conditions were good enough that Ron Bates, while sitting in a misting drizzle true to our mixed temperate rain forest climate, was able to use his telephoto lens to get some remarkably detailed images of the barnacles found on a Gray Whale. These images were taken on the North Shore of Washington State's Olympic Peninsula, on the South side of Juan de Fuca Strait.

Five Star Whale Watching's "Supercat" then headed to Race Rocks Marine Protected Area where passengers saw a Northern Elephant Seal (Note the proboscis (large, bulbous nose), and some Steller Sea Lions that appeared to be readying for auditions for places in a Barbershop Quartet.

Returning to Victoria Harbour, we saw the cruise ships "Carnival Splendor" and "Mariner of the Seas" tied up at Ogden Point.
