Resident Orcas encountered today! Sept 20th, 2012
Here are a few images from today's encounter with Resident Orcas.
First thing this morning we received a report that despite thick fog, Resident Orcas had been heard and seen off the west side of San Juan Island. We encountered the Orcas near Pile Point after searching for several minutes in the area. Whilst near Pile Point we encountered a mother & Calf foraging (hunting) for Salmon.
In the afternoon the fog had lifted and we found a large group of Resident Orcas offshore of San Juan Island. As we arrived on scene we could see one of the research vessels from NOAA trying to place a temporary tag on the Orcas.
