Resident Orcas, Minke Whales & Porpoise! Sept 13th, 2012

Some people believe that the number 13 is unlucky, but that was far from the case today as we encountered members from all 3 pods of Resident Orcas, at least 2 Minke Whales and bow-riding Dall's Porpoise, we even encountered a Hybrid Porpoise!
The Resident Orcas of J, K & L-pod were spread out off the southern end of San Juan Island this morning when we encountered them, doing a lot of foraging (hunting for Salmon). In the afternoon they had moved north past Lime Kiln Lighthouse and were doing more foraging.
This morning we also encountered at least two Minke Whales, possibly three and bow riding Dall's Porpoise:) Whilst we were watching the Dall's Porpoise we suddenly noticed a Hybrid Porpoise! The Hybrids are a result of male Harbor Porpoise mating with female Dall's Porpoise.
We also showed our guests the Harbor Seals at Chain Islets and the countless marine birds such as Cormorants and Harlequin Ducks.
