Transient Orcas & 2 Humback Whales out west! Aug 29th, 2012
We headed out west today and encountered Transient Orcas and 2 Humpback Whales!
The Transient Orcas included T20 & T21, plus the T60's and as we arrived on scene the Orcas were being very playful:) We witnessed some spy hops, tail slaps, cartwheels, and tail lobs. During our time with the Transient Orcas we may have witnessed them killing a Sea Lion as well!
After watching the Transient Orcas for a while we headed off to Race Rocks to show our guests the large number of Harbor Seals and both California & Steller Sea Lions that can be found at the Marine Protected Area. We also saw at least one Northern Elephant Seal! All these Pinnipeds are potential prey for the Transient Orcas we had just left.
Next we traveled a little East and encountered a Mother & Calf Humpback Whale:) We followed the two Humpback Whales for a while and then it was time to head home.
It was another fantastic day on the water!
