Humpback Whales & Transient Orcas! June 2nd, 2012

Here are some awesome images by Ron Bates, MMRG, from todays encounters with Humpback Whales and Transient Orcas! Our vessel found the first whale of the day not long after they had left the harbour this morning. Naturalist Nick spotted the blow from a Humpback Whale off-shore from Albert Head. The Humpback Whale turned out to be "Split Fin" a familiar visitor to this area:)

Not long after the Humpback had been spotted, reports came in of possible Orcas in Haro Strait so our boat headed in that direction to investigate. Sure enough it turned out that the T30 pod of Transient Orcas were sighted near Darcy Island:) The Orcas slowly moved south west and by the evening were right off Victoria waterfront!
