Transient Orcas in the afternoon! June 21st, 2012

Here are a few images from our afternoon encounter with the T75, Transient Orca pod.

During the morning and early afternoon J-pod had continued to move north towards Active Pass, but thankfully the T75's had popped into the area and we caught up with them near Whale Rock:)

This group had first been spotted north of Friday Harbour and had moved south west throughout the morning. When we arrived on scene we did witness one possible kill close to shore. Then the Orcas moved off-shore and were in obvious foraging mode.

We left them a few miles South East of the Salmon Bank marker, aiming towards Puget Sound.

On our way home we showed our guests some of the Harbor Seals that are a main prey animal for Transient Orcas. We also saw a couple of Bald Eagles at Trial Island!
