Resident & Transient Orcas today! May 30th, 2012

Today we were lucky enough to see both Resident and Transient Orcas during our tours! Ron Bates, MMRG, received a report of Orcas near Hein Bank early this morning and that is where we encountered members of K-pod including K21 “Cappuccino” and K40 “Raggedy”.

In the afternoon other members of K-pod and all of J-pod had met up with the K-pod members from the morning. Our Captain “Trev” spotted a couple of female Orcas with their kids and so we followed them. As can often be the case these youngsters were in a very playful mood and we all loved watching them goof around.

On our way home one of our crew, Naturalist Andrew, spotted some more Orcas south east of Trial Island and they turned out to be Transient Orcas, later identified as the T30′s!
