Today we had wonderful encounters all day with J-pod off San Juan Island! The first reports came in early this morning that members of J-pod had been sighted near Lime Kiln Whale Park. Other members of Jpod had been reported in Rosario Strait.
By the afternoon most of Jpod were together off the west side of San Juan Island. We witnessed a lot of foraging (hunting for food), spy hops, High Speed Porpoising (swimming) and Tail Slaps as the Orcas moved back and forward. In the later afternoon most of J-pod moved through Active Pass, though a small group were heard passing Lime Kiln Lighthouse late in the evening heading south.
Apart from J-pod we also had a fantastic encounter with Dall's Porpoise and saw several Harbor Seals.
