Resident Orcas near San Juan Island! July 28th, 2012

Here are a few images by Ron Bates MMRG, from today’s encounter with Resident Orcas. After yesterday’s Superpod, the Resident Oras had split up today with some Orcas to the north East, some to the south East and some further to the east. We managed to encounter members of J-pod this morning and then J & K-pod in the afternoon. Orcas can travel up to 100 miles in just 24 hours, so we never know for certain where and when we will encounter them. However, Ron Bates, coordinates a huge effort every day to locate the Whales and that is why in peak season the success rate is over 95%!
