Stunning evening Transient Orca encounter! July 21st, 2012
What an amazing encounter we had this evening with the T60 pod of Transient Orcas not far from Victoria!
When we first arrived on scene a couple of mile south of Discovery
Island, the Transient Orcas were making a kill and we could see lots of
thrashing & splashing in the water. Then suddenly one of the younger
Transient Orcas breached at least three times, it was a wonderful
surprise:)
The Orcas then began to swim towards the southern shoreline of
Discovery Island and began to hunt amongst the kelp beds. They followed
the southern shoreline for a while and then crossed over to the Chain
Islets where we had just left after watching several Harbor Seals, some
with new Pups, and even a Juvenile Steller Sea Lion……. Thankfully the
Transient Orcas left the Sea Lion sleeping on the rocks and continued
West towards Oak Bay.
On our way home we witnessed a stunning Pacific Coast Sunset, the perfect end to a perfect trip:)
