Spectacular evening encounter with 3 Humpback Whales! Aug 4th, 2012
This evening we had a spectacular encounter with 3 Humpback Whales a few miles south of Victoria! Earlier in the day we had been following a couple of Humpback Whales, including one we have nick-named "Split Fin" due to its unusual dorsal fin. We knew there were at least 2 other Humpback Whales in the area in in the evening three of them joined together and the result was an unforgettable experience. Whilst we were on scene we observed some wonderful lunge & bubble feeding as the Humpback Whales fed on small fish such as Herring or Sand Lance, or on the Krill blooms that are in the area at the moment. The Humpback Whales also made some wonderful Tail Flukes as they deep dived. We could not have asked for better conditions this evening with calm seas and beautiful skies, it provided perfect colours for our photographs. This was most evident when the Humpback Whales were spouting, the water vapor sat in the air for a long time and created a breathtaking sight! On our way home we stopped off at the Chain Islets to show our happy guests the countless Harbor Seals and Marine Birds at this incredibly beautiful spot. A stunning sunset provided the perfect finale to another spectacular evening tour:)
