Resident & Transient Orcas! Sept 6th, 2009.

During our morning tour we encountered members of J & K-pod off San Juan Island. The 3-5 foot seas made for a very exhilarating ride for our passengers:) We also traveled to Race Rocks to see the large number of California and Steller Sealions.

In the afternoon we headed West as the wind and waves had got worse out East. Just North of Race Rocks we encountered a group of Transient Orcas including T18 and T19B, a male with a very distinctive curved dorsal fin.

We again had chance to show our passengers the abundance of marine mammals at Race Rocks before heading back to the Transients who had now traveled to Discovery Island in just a short space of time. This is not surprising as Orcas can travel up to 100 miles in just a 24 hour period.
