SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2009 Morning Trip: There are no "Spares" in Whale Watching
Wouldn't it be nice if Viewing Nature was like Bowling? You have a day like yesterday, a "Strike" of a whale watching day with five species of Cetacea (Orcas, Humpback, Pacific White-Sided Dolphins, Dall`s Porpoise & Harbour Porpoise) and if we had carry-overs we could have saved some of those extra animals for this morning.
But, no, that`s not the way it works. Part of the exhilaration of seeing Marine Mammals in the Wild is that they are totally unencumbered, they have the freedom to stay as long as it suits them...or leave the area unexpectedly. This morning it was the latter.
But Nature always offers up other gifts if you are willing to change your perspective, and this morning we were blessed with nearly 200 Steller`s & California Sea Lions, plus hundreds of Harbour Seals, at Race Rocks Marine Protected Area.
