Southern Residents and T14 in the morning! Aug 1st, 09.
This morning we had encounters with both the Southern Residents (J,K & L-pod) plus a lone Transient Orca T14 "Pender". Our adventure began north of Turn Point after Ron Bates received reports that all three pods had been seen in Georgia Strait heading to East Point. As we arrived on scene all three pods could be seen traveling through Boundary passage towards Turn Point.
J & K Pod continued towards Turn Point but most of L-pod changed direction and traveled towards Roch Harbour! We observed a lot of tail slaps as the members of the pods communicated with each other.
On our way back to Victoria we heard that a famous Transient Orca, T14 "Pender" had been sighted a few miles north of 10 mile point and we caught up wih Pender a few miles south of D'arcy Island. It was great to see the old guy (born in 1962) again as it had been a couple of months since we had last seen him.
