THURSDAY, AUGUST 27, Afternoon Trip, GRAY WHALE!!!
THURSDAY, AUGUST 27, Afternoon Trip, GRAY WHALE!!!
As departure time approached, Five Star Whale Watching's crew had to make a decision: Was there still a good chance of getting far to the North to see the Resident Killer Whales that we had seen in the morning, or were they moving to quickly away from us?
The last thing we want to do is cruise for miles and miles and not get to see any whales, seals or sea lions. So the decision was made. We would look for Transient Killer Whales, Humpbacks and Gray Whales. We were confident that this gave us the best opportunity to give our passengers the best experience.
So, in fine sea conditions, under sunny skies and unseasonably warm temperatures (24C or 75F) we headed off.
We found sea lions at Race Rocks Marine Protected Area, Harbour Porpoise South of there, and two Gray Whales in pristine waters!
Thank you to the Pacific Wildlife Foundation for the sketch of a Gray Whale. www.pwlf.org
After hearing that the Southern Residents continued to move away from us, we realized that we definitely made the right choice.
