WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12, 2009, Afternoon Trip, Elephant Seals, Steller Sea Lions and Sooty Shearwaters!!!

Five Star Whale Watching's Afternoon Trip was unable to find a Killer Whale for only the 3rd time in our last 85 trips. So, you may ask, what may passengers see if they are not on one of the 95%+ trips that see Orcas? Well, if we fail to find a Transient Killer Whale, Minke Whale, Humpback Whale or Gray Whale, we search for some of the other Marine Mammals that visit our waters, and we highlight some of marine birds in our area.

We worked with other boats doing "grid searches" for Transient Killer Whales, Minke Whales and Humpback Whales: None of us were able to find a whale. But we did find Elephant Seals (one of which was over 1,500kgs/4,000lbs!), Steller Sea Lions, California Sea Lions and some rare sightings of Sooty Shearwaters.
