Aug 17th – Resident & Transient Orcas!
We had an awesome day with Resident & Transient Orcas today In the morning we encountered members of J & Kpod off the west side of San Juan Island. We had a great look at K21 “Cappuccino”, who is always a delight to see. The Orcas were spread out in resting lines traveling towards the west side of San Juan Island.
In the afternoon we encountered a Superpod of Transient Orcas near Gordon Head! We identified the Transient Orcas as the TO18’s & TO 19’s plus the TO37’s and we think the TO124’s. The Transient’s were in a very playful mode with tail slaps and tail flukes plus several breaches observed while we were on scene. We did see a Harbor Seal close by but the Orcas seemed in more of a social mood than hunting mode.
